I'm really not sure about the whole 3D effect. I honestly couldn't see it - and I'm not sure what I was expecting of it. The main effect that it seemed to have was to turn the start of the film into an early eighties, shot on cheap videotape, over-lit BBC version of the Hobbit. I told Denise this and she seemed to think this would make me like it more (on account, obviously, of this being what most episodes of Dr Who look like to her) In particular I got a very strong 'Tripods' vibe.
Much though I love the idea of the Hobbit, this was a very long film with not enough humour. The main comic relief was provided by the terribly acted, terribly stereotyped Alfrid.
And this is why I didn't blog yesterday, because I got back very late from seeing a fairly bad film. And this morning wrote a half-arsed blog (this one, you fool, the one you're reading now) I will return later, but can't promise that the other half of the arse will have returned.
