Now, I know that some people have told me they will sponsor me when they see results. And promises are all very well. But promises don't put motivational thoughts into my brain instead of this...
(sorry for reusing pictures but we are going to the zoo in twenty minutes so I'm strapped for time)
I also know that some people don't want to donate money to the PDSA, and that they have excellent reasons for this. So if anybody would like to sponsor me but not contribute to PDSA, just let me know and that money will go to Shelter
Why Shelter? Because homelessness is a terrible thing and in a nation like ours everybody should have a home. It is too easy to ignore people living rough and to think that somehow they have brought it on themselves. But there but for the caprices of cruel fate go you or I.
I went for a mini-break to York with my Dad about 15 years ago. We stayed in a nice hotel with views of York Minster. One evening, as we went to find somewhere to eat, my Dad saw a homeless man sitting in a doorway with a few blankets. My Dad went over to him and talked to him and found out something about him, because my Dad is brilliant and can see beyond what a lot of people would have seen. Everybody who ends up in these circumstances has a story and that is not the end of the story. With help they could get back on their feet. They need not fall between the cracks in society. When they finished talking my Dad gave the man a tenner.
Maybe he was going to spend it on a hot meal, or booze, or a cup of tea, or maybe he was going to buy dog food and feed his dog. Maybe he was going to use it to get a bed for the night, or drugs. Maybe he had a partner with a baby that needed food. There are probably a lot of different things that he could have spent that money on. But it really doesn't matter. Don't judge, but do what you can to help other people who are in many ways (I'm so wishy washy liberal and feel that this next phrase is a bit too subjective) less fortunate than you. And if you worry that giving money directly to somebody on the street is risky, then giving it to a charity seems like a brilliant idea!
So there you go. Donate some money to Shelter and assuage the guilt of a fat man who has more than he needs! Obviously if you use that link then at least let me know, otherwise I will still feel like nobody really wants me to lose weight (except for the kind people aforementioned) Or send me the money to put in the pot and tell me that you want it to go to Shelter.
And now, as I have been told not to say, for the 3rd weigh-in money shot. Don't worry, when I take these pictures of the scales. I make absolutely sure that there is no danger of including anything even vaguely approaching a money shot.
Which is visible results!
Now give me some money!
