Five like-minded ladies of a certain age and many shared interests, got together today. None of us knew every other lady there - we were all meeting at least one other person for the very first time.
And for around 3 hours one of us watercolour painted, one of us sewed bunting. One of us sewed some knitting together, two of us embroidered. At various points, one of us would drift into a secondary activity - knitting, drawing, designing. And we all drank tea and coffee and ate buns and scones!
And laughed! My, how we laughed! It was, I have to say, a truly genuine, friendly and wonderful atmosphere as 5 got crafting. It was one of those experiences when you feel comfortable to sit back and listen to the chat around you, and join in if you wanted to. No one dominated the conversation, no one got left out. The first meeting of the new craft group couldn't have gone better. It really couldn't.
It is, as they say, a 'Go-er.'
Already there are plans to re-arrange tables to best utilise the light and space. Thoughts of building up a stock of goods to run a craft stall somewhere next Christmas. Bring in the services of someone who could teach us all a new craft of some sort.
It was a spirit-lifting morning that, for me at least, has lasted the whole day. We all agreed it was just brilliant to be able to get together away from our respective homes and just knit, sew, paint, whatever, and have a chat and a laugh. And it will happen again. Another meeting arranged. More craft inspiration.
I am glad Jean and I didn't just talk about setting up this group. I am glad we just did it!
