An excellent film starring Victoria Wood, is 'Housewife, 49.' Have you seen it? It is set in the Second World War and tells the story of a housewife, aged 49, and how her life changes when she becomes a volunteer with the WI, or some such other club who pull together as part of the Home Front war effort. She starts keeping hens in the back yard for one thing, and that is always good. Anyway, well worth a watch if you get the chance.
And why am I telling you about this film? Well, only because today, I too become a Housewife, 49! And before I go any further I shall also wish a huge Malarkey 'Happy Birthday!!' to long-standing and much cherished house guest, Olly, my astral twin, as we share a birthday and as we both know, all the best people are born on 2nd November! Olly, Primrose and Camilla will be up with a breakfast tray as soon as you ding the bell - they want to know if you would like cake with your fry up? I mean, cake with your scrambled egg and smoked salmon (hurriedly covers up the bad taste faux pas - Olly is a lady after all, and not a plumber's mate.)
So this morning I was up early (NEVER waste a single birthday hour if you can possibly help it) and I hoiked up the bra straps an extra notch because at 49, the bazooms need all the hoiked up help they can get, and then I had white bread toast, butter and marmalade for breakfast (because these have been contraband since the diet malarkey started 5 months ago) and then I did a birthday dance around the kitchen. And it's not even half past eight!!
I have two new books to read, two new DVDs to watch, an enormous felting kit to felt - I have never felted before and want to have a go and now I can - the stabbing needles look excitingly dangerous - and I am being taken out for afternoon tea. A friend has given me a voucher for a meal at the one and only wholly vegetarian cafe in town which does amazing food, so that was a lovely surprise.
And the day is still young! Wet and windy, but young!
Have a lovely Sunday! 🎂
